Metadata — SEO

Meta data are invisible tags that provide data about your page to search engines and website visitors. They can be optimized to highlight the most important elements of your content and make your webs

Meta Title

Meta title is an important part of website optimization. The title are the singular line of text you see in the search engine results and is displayed on your browser tab. They are normally a short description of the linked page.

Meta Description

The meta description defines the description of a page in just one or two sentences and is shown in search engine result pages. Due to this it’s a major driver behind your website’s performance in search engine result pages.

We recommend descriptions between 70–150 characters. Google will truncate meta descriptions longer than a certain length. ...

Make sure the meta description is easy to read and contains relevant main keywords. Prevent duplicate content issues by making the meta description unique for every indexable page.

Slug

The slug is the last part of the unique page you are writing. This should be a user-friendly unique identifier. This means having relevant and succinct url paths, such as www.example.com/about-us. A good rule of thumb is to make your urls clear enough so that a user who only sees the url path will have a good idea of what will be on the page. They should be similar but not necessarily the same as the page title.

Parents (Förälder)

The parent field makes it easy to create structure on your website, this makes url easy to read when creating pages and related subpages, such as www.site.com/rederier/royal-caribbean/oasis-of-the-seas. This functionality also affects an automatically generated sitemap (in xml format) which gets passed to and processed by the search engine crawlers.

Other SEO practices

There are other practices that you can do to improve your site’s SEO. Here are a few:

  • Add alt tags to your images Adding alt tags to your images not only makes them more accessible by providing information about the image for screen readers, but also improves the SEO of your site. Be sure to edit the alt text field and the copyright text field along when you upload your image

  • Generate a sitemap As mentioned earlier, a sitemap gets generated by default each time you update a document in Hero Cms. You can check it directly in www.your-url.com/sitemap.xml. By creating a structure of pages using the parent field, your url's will be grouped in a logical manner, in a tree structure.

  • Faster pages rank better The more images you have on a page, the slower it will load. This is as certain as gravity. Keep images to a minimum, and dont use images if they are not necessary.
